Joshua is a trial and appellate partner practicing in the areas of employment, general liability, and healthcare liability defense.  He presently spends about two-thirds of his time in trial court litigation, while the balance of his time is dedicated to writs and appeals.

Joshua defends individuals, businesses, and public entities in state and federal jury trials, bench trials, and arbitrations.  His standard approach is to focus on evidence that is likely to be admitted at trial or arbitration.  In this way, Joshua quickly identifies core issues and develops key evidence, and he is frequently able to avoid irrelevant discovery and unnecessary motion practice.  Joshua develops early rapport with key witnesses and stakeholders.  For cases that are tried, Joshua’s first-chair trial record is unblemished.  More frequently, he is able to get dismissals, summary judgment, or advantageous settlements with minimized expense.

Joshua’s trial practice provides valuable intuition and perspective in his appellate practice.  He understands the incentives and dynamics that inform trial court decisions and strategy because he actively practices at that level of litigation.  Such experience and is uncommon among appellate practitioners.  It makes Joshua and other Cole Pedroza attorneys uniquely valuable.

Joshua graduated cum laude, Order of the Coif, from Loyola Law School in 2003.  He graduated cum laude from the University of California at San Diego in 2000.  He joined Cole Pedroza in 2007, before which he practiced in two other civil litigation firms.   Joshua is admitted to practice in state and federal courts in California.

Published decisions in which Joshua has represented a party or amici curiae include Nalwa v. Cedar Fair, L.P.(2012) 55 Cal.4th 1148, Burton v. Cruise (2010) 190 Cal.App.4th 939, and Haworth v. Superior Court (2010) 50 Cal.4th 372,among others.

Joshua is a proud and active member of the Association of Southern California Defense Counsel (ASCDC), serving on its Amicus Committee and submitting amicus curiae letters and briefs in cases of interest to the civil defense bar.  He has been selected as a Super Lawyers "Rising Star" every year since 2012.
